Surviving the Summer Holidays

August 6, 2018

The summer seems to be going by pretty fast, probably due to the fact that I was organised this year and I had a little luck on my side. I'm a planner when it comes to a lot of things, particularly when it comes to financial matters. I save 11 months months out of the year to pay for holidays and activities. Blake is a very active child and he likes to have lots to do. The long summer holidays can be difficult for both parents and children, but I find that if you are prepared then it's a lot easier.

He's attending sports camp for the next two weeks and he's very excited about it. We're having a very hot summer this year and it's good for him to be outside, I'm hoping it will tire him out, this heat has made him go crazy and I can't keep up. The heat is turning me into a zombie and all I want to do is live in a cold shower, it's the only place I feel comfortable. I think at this point we would both be happy if it wasn't so damn hot! Blake keeps asking when he can wear pajamas again as he misses them.

We've been making use of our local library and parks, we're lucky that we have so much outdoor space where we live, everywhere is easy to get to as well which helps. I'm not one for travelling long distances and like things to be quick and easy.

It's the first day of sports camp today, which means he's pretty much in school as usual for the next two weeks. He loves playing and he loves school. So having those two things combined is heaven for him.

I always try and make the summer holidays really fun for both of us. Children only stay little for so long and I want to make it count. My sister was kind enough to take us both to Disneyland Paris for his fifth birthday and we loved every minute of it. In a couple of weeks we'll be heading to Scotland to visit family, we don't get to go there often and it's nice to see family.

This summer seems to be going by really fast, and I'll be sad when it's over, but I'm already making plans for Easter and the following summer, so there is that to look forward to. For now we still have a lot to look forward to. Including a final cinema trip to see the new Winnie The Pooh Film that's coming out later this month.
